(Abbreviation) Hang-Up Parachute Release Assembly. HUPRA is a piece of equipment for releasing parachutists caught or "Hung-Up" onto the rear of a flying aircraft after failing to break away from the aircraft and remaining tethered by the static line. HUPRA is essentially a parachute that is secured to the static line and accompanied by a pair of bolt croppers which is used to release the Parachutist(s), the failed parachute(s) and the used static lines from the previous successful jumps in the stick (group).Usage: The hung up parachutist was released from the aircraft using HUPRA.

(Abbreviation) Hung Up Paratrooper Retrieval Apparatus. HUPRA is a Role Equipment System used to retrieve a paratrooper who is still tethered to an aircraft via static line. The apparatus itself is usually actuated via an electric winch which effectively winches the HUP back inside the aircraft.
Usage: The HUPRA Kit is aircraft role equipment a paratrooper never wants to see utilised.
