The small organ of spongy, sensitive, erectile tissue, blood vessels, and nerves located above the entrance to the vagina. Beneath the skin, the clitoris forks into two shafts known as crus (singular: crura) which extend for about three inches on either side of the vaginal opening. During stimulation and foreplay, this spongy area fills with blood and the glans, shaft, and legs swell and become firm. Contrary to the penis, which serves both the functions of procreation and urination, the sole purpose of the clitoris is pleasure and to transmit sexual sensation.
