Andes lightning
Definition
(Noun) A coronal electrical discharge observed over any mountain(s) under electrically disturbed atmospheric conditions. The discharges are often intense enough to be observed from several hundred miles away (beyond the range of thunder's audibility) and are thus sometimes erroneously thought to be "quiet" discharges, in contrast to typical lightning which is seen and heard in closer proximity.Synonyms: Andes lights, Andes glow.
Usage: I was observing the mountains during a thunderstorm and caught a brief glimpse of Andes lightning, but I was too far away to hear any thunder.
